Missing data in ICON Model
6 years 9 months ago #599
Hi,
I can see the arrow of wind, this means that data are there.
It seems that no map from the menu "Weather map" is not selected.

Hi,
I just test downloading ICON model data, there is apparently a problem at the level of the server. We are looking at this problem.
In the meantime, you can use ICON-EU, which work

The ICON Global data should be back in production without more problems.
I tried to downscale the production server for DWD and Meteo France products but it turned out that the ICON global data is too demanding for a smaller setup as it has a huge volume (altitude data) and it all requires remapping from the unique grid used by ICON global. A single cpu could not handle this.
I initially used a large server at my location (free) but the network demands were too high and download and upload speeds were not acceptable.
The solution was to revert back to the larger AWS EC2 cloud (t2 medium) in the Frankfurt region. (This is the only region that gets reasonable downloads from Meteo France).
In short - its quite a balancing act and we will have to bear the cost of the larger virtual cloud server.
