Hello David,

Thank you for another great update. For me relative windgusts is much more than a 'minor improvement'. I do not know any other application that shows unstable air so clearly. This new feature works great in the Windows version. Unfortunately that is not the case on my Macbook. The attached image shows what happens. I have no clue where these colors come from as there is no colors_gust_kts.txt in the usual data directory.

Absolute value of gusts use colors_wind_knts.txt
Relative value of gusts use color_gust_knts.txt

PS: In case you need them : github.com/opengribs/XyGrib/tree/master/data/colors

Hi Ruud,
I suspect that you have two data locations on your Mac for the 'data' folder tree
The valid location since v1.1.2 (if I remember correctly) is /Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/openGribs/XyGrib
Please check if your xygrib.ini file 'appDataDir' points to this location (on line 15 approx). The ini file is location in /Users/<user>/Library/Preferences

If you are pointed to the old 'data' folder please just edit the ini file or ever delete the 'appDataDir' entry. XyGrib will locate the files and set the key/value pair.

The updated 'data' folder tree will include the gust color file and it should be missing in the old 'data' tree.

Thanks David and Dom,

As David suggested I indeed found a second data location which has the gust color file. I copied the file from there to the location that I am obviously using and solved the problem. I am not entirely sure if this is handled correctly bij de MaintenanceTool, but until other Mac users report the same issue I just blame myself and enjoy the new feature. Thanks for your support and all the hard work...

Hi Dom,
Could you please explain the difference between absolute and relaive wind gusts? When I plot wind gusts I get a map that uses the same color scale used by the wind map.

Hello,
You can swith from absolute to relative :
"Gust color map that can show absolute gust velocity values or relative (delta) values above the wind speed. Absolute gust velocity is the default. This can be changed in the weather options sub-menu."
"Carte des rafales de vent : affichage soit des valeurs absolues de vitesse de rafale ou les valeurs relatives (écart entre la rafale et la vitesse moyenne du vent). La vitesse de rafale absolue est la valeur par défaut. Cela peut être modifié dans le sous-menu des options présentation graphique du menu Cartes météo."
